POA Professionals custom fit each helmet.

Cranial Helmets

Babies and parents are handled with care at POA’s facility in Orlando, Florida. Each child is assessed for treatment before custom helmet construction begins.

POA consults with parents and their pediatricians providing full details of the assessment, fabrication and fitting process.

POA Custom Cranial Helmets – Gently shaping baby’s head.

POA’s custom cranial helmet is used to remold a baby’s head into a symmetrical shape as the baby develops. The helmet rounds out flat areas as well as takes the bulge out of areas with too much roundness. The helmet does not put pressure on a baby’s head. It guides the growth to specific areas to even out the shape of the head.

An infant can start wearing a helmet as early as 3 months. The infant must be screened for other conditions before custom fitting can be done. A wide variety of colors and designs are available.

Remolding helps to correct a number of disorders:

POA’s remolding orthoses are used to correct positional plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, scaphocephaly and other head shape asymmetries in infants ages 3-18 months.

Positional plagiocephaly
Positional plagiocephaly, also known as deformational plagiocephaly or flathead syndrome, is a condition most commonly found in infants and is characterized by a flat spot on the back or one side of the head caused by remaining in one position for too long. The condition has become more prevalent since pediatricians began recommending that babies sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

Brachycephaly
Brachycephaly, also known as flat-head syndrome, is a type of cephalic disorder. This occurs when the coronal suture fuse prematurely, causing a shortened front-to-back diameter of the skull. The coronal suture is the fibrous joint that unites the frontal bone with the two parietal bones of the skull. The parietal bones form the top and sides of the skull.

Scaphocephaly
Scaphocephaly, derived from the Greek skaphe (a light boat or skiff), describes a specific variety of a long narrow head that resembles an inverted boat. It is a type of cephalic disorder which occurs when there is a premature fusion of the sagittal suture. The sagittal suture joins together the two parietal bones of skull. Scaphocephaly is the most common of the craniosynostosis conditions and is characterized by a long, narrow head.
